EVANGELISM
Outline for Evangelism

INTRODUCTION
There is a way to witness to Mormons, and others, which works over 90% of the time to communicate the biblical gospel of salvation by grace alone. This way follows the pattern of Jesus, Peter, and Paul in the New Testament.

For example, this was taught to a friend who followed this outline with a Mormon on an airplane trip to Utah. The Mormon phoned long distance twice to learn more.

THE THREE MOST COMMON WAYS CHRISTIANS DEAL WITH MORMONS
  1. Ignore them and hope they go away.
  2. Talk past them with unclear words and confused definitions. (Mormons use Christian theological terms, but with radically different meanings.)
  3. Argumentation and debate – usually about Joseph’s Smiths failings and lifestyle, or about the doctrine of God and the Trinity.

However, these all fail to comply with God’s will and ways.
In Acts 8:1-4, who went everywhere preaching the gospel? ______________________

In 1 Corinthians 2:1-2, what did Paul avoid doing? ____________________________

In 1 Corinthians 9:19-23, Paul did what to improve his witnessing? ________________

In 2 Timothy 2:24-26, we are taught to not ___________, but to be ________________.

THE KEY TO EVANGELISM IS IN THE WORD EVANGELISM
The English word evangelism is a form of evangel, which came from the French evangile. Latin is evangelium and Greek is euangellion. The old English word was godspel. Our modern English word is gospel. All these words simply mean “good news.”

Therefore, do to evangelism is to tell the good news. And that good news is what God has done.

Evangelism does not take place by ignoring someone, by failing to communicate the correct message, by only being nice, and certainly not by using human reasoning to win an intellectual debate.

Romans 1:16: says the power of God unto salvation is the ____________. Because this is true, this is what our message must be, if we are truly doing evangelism (telling the good news that is used by God unto salvation). Romans 10:13-15 tells the necessity and God's attitude toward those who preach the gospel.

Because the gospel is God’s power for salvation, just what is this good news/where is it defined simply in the Bible?

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 says that for salvation one must believe and have a conviction that…
  1. Jesus died for our sins, according to the scriptures.
  2. Jesus was buried.
  3. Jesus rose from the dead on the third day, according to the scriptures.
In Matthew 9: 13, Jesus explained that he came to save _________________.

Most Mormons already believe points #2 and #3! The problem lies with point #1.

MAJOR HINDRANCES TO THE SALVATION OF MORMONS
Most Mormons believe they are good, even gods, not ______________ by nature.

Most Mormons believe they can save themselves by “___________   ___________.”

Most Mormons believe they will earn at least the lowest level of heaven, and usually a higher level They have no fear of God’s judgment or _________.

Most Mormons are under the authoritarian control of their church leaders and culture.

EXAMPLES OF HOW JESUS AND PAUL SHOWED PEOPLE THEY ARE SINNERS
Luke 10:25-29 Jesus used the ________ with the lawyer.

Luke 18:18-23 Jesus used the ________ with the ruler.

John 4:4-41 (especially verse 16) Jesus used the _______ with the woman at the well.

Romans 3:20 says purpose of the law is to bring knowledge of ______.

Romans 7:7-13 shows how Paul was brought under conviction by the _______.

1 Timothy 1:8-13 Paul taught Timothy to use the _______ according to the gospel (v. 11).

GETTING THE GOSPEL TO NON-BELIEVERS IN A WAY THEY CAN UNDERSTAND
1 Cor. 2:14 Unsaved people cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God (salvation.)

Ephesians 2:1-5 Unsaved people are dead in sins and enemies of God.

However, Romans 2:15 everyone’s conscience is the ________written on one’s heart.

Analogy of the hunter lost in the woods. He was happy (a “good person”) until he realized his serious predicament (lost sinner). Only after he gained knowledge (the Law) of this lost condition did his sense of self preservation (God given) awaken and he took action (faith).
